Default no overdrive

I have a 1990 D150 with a 3 speed transmission and overdrive that is not working. The codes that show up are 37, Part throttle unlock solenoid driver circuit fault and 45, Overdrive solenoid circuit fault. I disconnected the two wiring connectors at the transmission and sprayed them with electrical cleaner hoping it was just a dirt issue but to no avail. I thought I'd see if anyone has thoughts as to possible causes before I take it to a shop. Thanks.

Typically, the full size trucks of that vintage had the A518 with the smaller A500 reserved for the Dakota. Anyway, the A518 of that year was still equipped with a non-lockup torque converter, so the code 37 is a ghost code. All the trucks with 518's had that code from day one. No worries. However, the other code would appear to indicate a failed overdrive solenoid. OD will also be inhibited by other things including the speed sensor (speedo working?) and overheating (or too cold). The OD solenoid is what one set of those wires you mentioned plugs into. To replace it requires dropping the valve body.

Thanks for the reply. I do remember now that 37 was a ghost code. Speedo works fine and no problem with temperature. Guess I need to see if an overdrive solenoid is still available. Thanks again.

If it's the A518 with the two pin connector on the solenoid, it'd be this one, as an example. http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/...-00053392a.htm

Oddly, I couldn't find any on ebay that weren't for the lock-up style transmissions.
