Default A better idea for paint...from Ford

Posted here because many Ram owners have had problems with paint on their new trucks.

http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2013/08...nt-better.html

Something to think about. From the picture it appears that dust nibs can be polished out with no problems. My dealer's body shop did not want to do this to my Ram. The shop manager said it might make the condition worse. If they can do it at the factory, it should be able to be done at the dealer, right?

I did wetsand and polish the dust/dirt nibs on my Ram...all 79 of them.

So it can be done...Chrysler and its dealers had better get with it before I am ready to purchase my next truck.

Most body shops don't want to start buffing out blemishes from the factory because depending on how deep they are they may have to end up doing paint work or having to redo the clear

Good point. If they mess up at the factory, they might just run it through the paint booth again. Had to have body work done on my Ram. The tech doing the work found that it had two complete coats of base coat and clear coat from the factory.

But still you have to give Ford an "thumbs up" for trying to fix a problem.

Totally agree that they should fix the problem, went to school with the guy who runs the body shop and he said they could color sand mine but once they break the clear it would a even bigger headache, I have 5-6 little bubbles/spots in my paint and being black when I wax the truck they really stick out to me but the normal person prob won't notice from a few feet away

The paint on the '13 F150 I recently sold was really nothing special, it has some some junk in it and the metallic was was little blotchy on the sides. Now the '11 and '13 Mustangs I owned had some nice paint, except for the aluminum hood corroding on the '11 and the usual orange peel they were really nicely done. Unlike the '12 Challenger I had which ranks as one of the worse paint jobs on a new car I ever owned.

Paint on the F150 was better than the 4th gen Rams I have had though, too bad the rest of the truck sucked
