another cruise control question
I have a question about my cruise control on my Ram 1500. It is a 5.9 4wd sport edition. I can’t get it to work. The light will come on with the system check and go out but when I hit the switch it will flash and then go out. When I hit it again it will stay on for a second or so then go out then it won’t come back on at all when the button is pushed until I shut the truck off and let it sit. It seems as though the computer is looking for some sort of condition and when it doesn’t see it prevents the cruise from working until the memory is cleared. There are no codes via my hand scanner. I have checked for vacuum leaks and found none. I have used a hand pump to test the vac capability on the CC unit itself and it holds vac. I have taken manual vac readings at the lines, manifold, and the various fittings and the results are ok. There are no brake lights out, nor are there any ABS lights on and the horn works as does the odometer and speedometer. I did replace the non adjustable brake switch with no luck. I know that there is a functioning speed sensor because the door locks will lock at the designated speed but I think I read somewhere that there are two sensors??? I have not taken the switch out or disassembled the steering wheel and don’t really want to, but from the mannerisms of the switch and corresponding dash lights it appears that the switch is not the issue. When I got the truck the cruise worked. A little over a year ago I had the trans replaced. I think the cruise worked after that but I hardly used the truck and I really don’t remember for sure.
Does this vehicle have a fuse for the cruise control and does anyone have any other ideas?
