Default tow hitch question

Found this hitch on eBay. Is it really rated for 12,000lbs ? The stealership said it was but they also said it was the only hitch made for the 2013 RAM.

With what you see there you have a Class III hitch. I got a class IV from e-trailer for $190.00.

According to Chrysler that hitch is rated for 12K/1200 with an equalizer setup, 5K/500 without. Looking at the instructions it appears that if you have a step bumper most of the hitch is already there and that bolts to it.

http://www.mopar.com/part/82213205?s...=4309881&b=ram

Search the part number and you can find the instructions online, pretty simple it appears..

So should I listen to the Chrysler web site? Can't beat $95.

I dunno, listen to guys on an internet forum or believe what dodge says

It appears that the large crossmember for the hitch is already there, look at your truck and look at the instructions.

My last three 4th gen Rams all had the class IV hitches on them from the factory so I'm not familiar with trucks that come without a hitch.

Stupid question but why is the ones that come on the truck class iv and the one that's added is class 3? Aren't they the same part or is the one at the factory different?
