Default Truck gets jerky and sounds like its going to die

Here lately my pickup will start fine and when I go to take off it runs in 1st fine. But when I shift to 2nd and get to going around 30MPH the truck starts chugging and jerking almost like its going to die. But if I mash it to the floor it will come out of it. Also I took it on about a 100mile trip and ran fine the whole way and then when I had slowed it down and drove in town(40MPH) it just died, and would not start up again. So I let it sit for 45min-1hr and it started up fine, but then it died out of no where again.
Now I dont know, I am only 19. I mean I have messed around with cars, But have no where near the experience I would like to. I was thinking maybe Fuel pump, Fuel Filter, Fuel Sending unit? Could it be transmission?
Thank you guys for the help

Don't think it's the fuel pump, but that's real easy to check. Fuel filter, maybe, but not likely. Sending unit, probably not. Don't think it's the tranny, either. Is it throwing any codes? Is your check engine light on?

No lights are on. But I will see if it is showing some codes anyway. Could it electrical?

That's what I'm thinking. It sounds more like a sensor is on the fritz.

I hooked it up and it threw two codes. PO113 which is "Air Intake sensor 1 Circuit High Input" and PO351 which is "Ignition Coil A Primary Circuit"
Would either of those cause the the truck to die?

Ignition coil could cause the problem I would think. I'm not positive so don't quote me on it, but it could be bad.

Just to clarify. If this is a 2nd Gen, there is no fuel filter.

I'd check the plug on the coil because the comp can't discern if it's a bad plug or a bad coil.

I HAVE heard of the air intake circuit being caused because of back-pressure. That would lead me to believe that you may have a restricted Cat Converter. As the vehicle warms up the paladium in the cat expands and restricts the back pressure. Once cooled off, the vehicle will start fine.

I know what the codes say, but I would let it warm up. Check the Cat for excessive heat, and the amount of exhaust pressure coming out of the tail pipe for a diminished capacity.

If the cat overheats and the exhaust diminishes tap the converter with a hammer and listen for anything rattling inside.

I knew there wasnt a fuel filter, Its all one unit, I have just heard of guys putting in new mesh screens. I did some looking and the connectors of the coil and the 2 pin is really loose and isnt locking in, I was going to test the coil and didnt get around to it. I also am thinking Ill change the cap and rotor. I drove it again today, and it went about a block and it died, and it wouldnt fire back up. Cranked it and cranked it, and cranked it again. then it started again and died in 3-4 blocks again, then cranked it again and it turned over. and again 3-4 blocks, died, cranked it and it turned over almost immediately. Do you guys still think it is the coil? I will get that stuff switched out and check out the CAT. Thank you guys for all the help and input, I appreciate it.

I'd change the plug on the coil to start. I'm just working my way through the least expensive to the more expensive. Even if you have to cut the end off and put two spade connectors on it.

If that doesn't solve it, I'd go with the coil...

Ok I will do that. Do you think it could be the sending unit?
