Question haul/tow button

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Powertech v8 4.7L. We have been moving a lot of tree limbs lately, and not sure if I need to turn on the Haul Button when we have so many lbs in the bed. And how fast can we drive with all that weight in the bed? Thanks.

It won't hurt to use it. You can tell if you need to use it if the tranny is hunting a lot, then you might want to use it.

It does help to turn the tow/haul on when you have a bed full of stuff, its actually made for just that purpose. As long as you have your tree limbs secure you can operate safely at highway speeds.

the key is, if your Ram is shifting up & down frequently, use the tow/haul mode

don't forget, your transmission may be an automatic, but you can help the engine by dropping a gear or two
whether you are using the normal mode or tow/haul
tow/haul holds the gear for longer periods of time & allows the engine torque to work better

Thank You all, we were really wondering about that because it started to overheat a bit because with the extra weight it(BANDIT) really seems to idle high.

The overheating could be a function of the heavy weight you are hauling and the tranny working hard ie. what GT Yankee is referring to when he suggests dropping down a gear or two. It could also be a problem with the cooling system, or both. IMHO I would have your cooling system evaluated first and if operating correctly or after having it serviced, then use tow/haul mode and dropping a gear or two.
