Default Trying to figure out Transmission model

Hey everybody, haven't been to the site for awhile. It's been a busy summer. Thanks for the help on my last problem. It ended up being the crank sensor. Now, new question. My truck is a 1998 1500 4WD with a 360/5.9 and a 4 speed automatic transmission. In the manual it states torque values for either a 46E or a 47E. The numbers from the tranny aren't even close. Can anybody help me figure this out, quickly. Truck apart now. Thanks

You have a 46RE. The 47RE's weren't installed in the 1500's.

A518 (46RH/46RE)
if you have wires going to your transmission, you would have the 46RE

The A518, later renamed 46RH (hydraulic controlled governor pressure) and 46RE (electronic controlled governor pressure), is an A727 derivative with overdrive, in the A500 ilk. Starting in the early 1990s, it was used in trucks and vans. The overdrive fourth gear ratio is 0.69:1.

Automatic Transmission Identification

Transmission identification numbers are stamped on the driver side of the case flange just above the oil pan gasket (just below the TV lever). There will be a 9 digit part number, a space, a 4 digit build date, a space, and a 4 digit serial number.

Auto Trans code breaks down like this:

4 = 4 forward speeds
6 = strength of trans. (1-9, higher number, stronger trans.)
R = Rear wheel drive
H=Hydraulic controlled, E = Electronic controlled shift

Default Thanks A Bunch

Thanks for the info guys. Seems simple now, but at the time I had no idea how to figure it out. Thanks again. I'm off to adjust bands. Breeze13
