This is exactly what is happening to me. My 2013 Limited with 3.55 (which I am perfectly happy with) is being swapped out for a 2014 Limited. When I placed the order, only 3.21 and 3.92 were offered.

I am disappointed, but opted for the 3.92. Perhaps its the lesser of two evils, as I prefer the 3.55. But 3.21 is just not desirable to me, and 3.92 is overkill for my needs. So which will it be, Neo? Will you choose the blue pill or the red pill.....?

You can all give me a hard time but I ordered the 2014 Big Horn Hemi 8 speed with the 3.21. I pull about 5500lbs and drive almost 90% highway. I don't care about getting off the line like a teenager but I do care how often I have to stop at the pump and fill up. I went with the optional 32 gallon tank to minimize my stops. Ok go ahead and give it to me nicely.

Nobody's gonna beat you up. The 8 speed is the reason that that 3:21 will work fine. An older truck like mine would probably suck with 3:21's.

PJam - Welcome aboard and consider yourself obligatorily beaten up!

I've got a 2013, 6-speed and 3.92 rear. It pulls my 4,500 lb camper superbly - which is the primary reason I went with the 3.92. I'm sure you will be happy with the 2014 BH as outfitted. IMO gas mileage is more a function of driving style than the difference in gear ratios. My highway mpg (w/o trailer @ 75 mph) is about 18.5; towing about 10; in town it's about 13. I can live with those numbers & didn't expect my hemi to be a fuel sipper. I also care more about passing by gas stations than spinning my tires & love my 32-gallon tank. However, I do find the truck has plenty of get up n go when needed.

Go with the 3.92. I had the 3.92 in my 11 and now have the 3.55 in the 13 and wish I had the 3.92. You really do not get a lot of snap with the 3.92 unless you get on it but the extra towing capability is nice to have.

I ordered mine with 3.92's. But while I was waiting for it, the dealer let me use a loaner with 3.21's. I towed my 5500 lb travel trailer up in the mountains with it (with my ATV in the bed), daily drove it, took it on a couple long highway trips etc.

All in all, I was surprised at just how totally adequate the 3.21's were, in combination with the 8 speed - which I think is actually the secret sauce.

I have since done all of the exact same driving in my truck with the 3.92's. It most definitely does hold a taller gear towing up grades. It most definitely does come out of the hole harder. If it matters, and frankly, to me it does not, but it's more "fun" to drive. It does everything a little bit better/harder that you would expect from lower gears.

The only real surprise, is how much of an MPG difference they have made. Over all, across all types of driving, I'm averaging a solid 3-4 MPG less with my 3.92 truck than I was in the 3.21 loaner. It is most obvious on the highway, of course. Where I was getting right around 20 MPG with the 3.21's, I'm getting 16 with the 3.92's.

Anyway... I'm glad I got the 3.92's, for my purposes. For what the OP describes, I'm not so sure he wouldn't actually be happier with the 3.21's. Only he can decide that though...

Just out of curiosity, why are they swapping your truck out? I see another person posted the same thing? Is it a major issue they just can't resolve?
