Default 2003 5.7 oil filter

Can anyone tell me why my 2003 1500 QC Hemi has a different oil filter then what all the books say it should have. The one that was on it when I got it, and fits, was thinner and longer then what the book says. I had the local NAPA match the filter that was on it so that I could put the same one back on.

Whomever did the last change put that filter on. Apparently it worked because your engine is still running. I wouldn't worry about it, just put the correct one on and call it a day.

That was my thinking. The one that is suppose to go on it looks like it is bigger around I will just have to see if it fits ok.

The Wix I just put on had a larger overall diameter than the one I took off, but the gasket and threads matched up fine. I reckon different manufacturers make 'em in different flavors.

Did someone install a 45 oil filter adapter on your engine? I found out the hard way that the Mopar retrofit 45 oil filter adapter has threads for the 08+ oil filter; the original size no longer fits because of the threads.
