Your truck should have the receiver hitch on it. If not check with your dealer or (if you still have it) window sticker. I would not tow anything with the bumper. The receiver hitch is the smart way to go. You'll also need a ball mount. I think the proper drop for the mount would have the ball around 24" off the ground. Any towing shop can help you in selecting the correct mount and drop.
There are a few things I do not comprise with on vehicles. 1) tires, 2) brakes and, 3) towing hitches. Trying to go on the cheap in any of these will only get you in trouble big time. A "light" 500~1000lb trailer that breaks free from your truck going 50mph is one hell of a projectile. I saw one of those portable cement mixers come lose from a pick up and slam into a parked car. Damn near totaled the car. Thankfully no one was inside.
Where do you get 24" ball height? Ball height is dependent on the trailers. The trailer should either be completely level or with the front of the trailer slightly lower. 24" is about 12'' too high for all the trailers I've used.
