Default Blacked out tail lights on 07 Ram

So my truck's tail lights are stock and that bright red. On my old Dodge my brother had blacked them out completely, yet you could still see them light up very easily. I want the look of blacked out tail lights on my new one, but want them to look clean. I'm contemplating using black pantyhose (lots of people in my town have gone this route) just to see how they'd look.

My truck has those tail lights that kind of bulge out and I've seen other trucks that had them blacked out a certain way. I think leaving the reverse lights unpainted looks real good, but I don't really know how to achieve this without messing up. Does anyone have any pointers on how to properly do this? Or if there are any tail light covers that would fit my style tail lights? And if anyone has the same tail lights feel free to share some pictures.

All help is much appreciated!

Im actually doing mine right now. I have a 12 so different style then yours but i just taped off the clear for reverse lights. Im using vht nite shades. I cleaned the lights with denatured alcohol then 3 coats of nite shades then 2 coats of clear. Waxed them also before i put them back in. I bought led bulbs too while i hadthe lights out

A better way then above.. Wetsand lightly first.. , dry, tape off clean, and clean the lights with alcohol based window cleaner. 3 coats of nite shades with even sprays.. Usually when I tint tails I do the outside edges then start from one side and work my way accross. I then do 4 coats of clearcoat.. Allow to dry over night. Do a thin wetsand to get any imperfections out if noticable. Get a good polish like mothers ultimate polish and use ome elbow grease to rub that right in. After use a nice coat of wax and wala. They will look professionally painted. They also wont have the risk of fading fast from the sun.

Done 2 sets of the 3-d 3rd gen tails... Both came out great.
