Default Is It Accurate? (Gallons Used in Fuel Filter Life Display on EVIC)

So I was looking through the data on the EVIC and noticed that the Fuel Filter Life display shows "Gallons Used" just below and to the right of the filter life guage.

I was wondering if anyone knows if this is really an accurate readout.
If so, it is a great tool for calculating MPG over a long period of time without having to track odometer readings and fuel pumped at each fill up.

Mine says 241 gallons while my ODO reads 4959.4...if the "Gallons Used" is indeed accurate, my 2013 Ram 2500 6.7L CTD Laramie Mega Cab 4x4 is averaging 20.579 MPG! That's NUTZ!

I think I'm finding between the trip meter and my actual pump gallons, the evic may be displaying 2 mpg more than actual. Easy to calculate if you use the same gas pump and stop when it first clicks off each time you fill up.

Hand calculating at fill up I'm getting anywhere from 15.5 to 17.9 MPG. My EVIC has shown 19.9 during roadtrips but have never seen 20.579 on it EVER.

ya hand calc is best and most accurate method. just note the galleons when filling up and make sure you always fill up to same level, (usually full and first click off of pump)_

I always do the hand calculate method. I write it on my gas receipt. I also write my EVICs mileage on the receipt too. The problem with hand calculating is that it is too impractical for me to use the same station, let alone pump to fill each time. I've been to overly sensitive pumps that click off when I am not even half full. I've also had gas come poring out my fill neck without shutting off the pump (good thing I don't leave my pump unattended).

If you have to use different pumps or top it off, then average out 3 or 4 fill ups for your mileage and the calculation will still work out fairly correctly.
