Default Alarm

When I lock the truck using the key fob then come back later and unlock it using the "hidden key" in the key fob, it sets off the alarm. Is this normal and if so what could the reasoning be for it?

Did you check the owners manual, page 21?

yes its normal the reason is if you use the key to unlock it you are not turning the alarm off. Why are you using the hidden key to unlock it Its more for is the door locks malfunction not for everyday use.

Yes I did, but it came no were near explaining the reason. It just said how to activate the alarm. It kind of gave me the impression that locking the truck with the key fob and not using the lock button on the door, that the alarm would not be activated.
I do wish it had a more obvious alarm active light so it could be easily seen by passer bys.

I'd say its abnormal because my truck's alarm doesn't trip when I use the hard key to unlock it.

Are you sure your truck's alarm is actually setting? Mine didn't when first purchased & I had to get the dealer to take some action to turn it on. Easy check - lock the truck with the window down. Leave the fob elsewhere, reach in and open the door. You will then know without a doubt if the alarm is arming or not...

Maybe it is only the push button start that sets off the alarm with the key? My alarm sounds when I use my hidden key. Probably not an issue with the regular remote keyless entry since the key has the chip in it.
