Default 99 24v Transmission fix (auto)

Sharing in case others have these symptoms. The day it occurred was the first time it's happened.

I was running no load to another town or two so I took the diesel just to keep it utilized. At town 1 I cranked her up after a stop, put it in gear and it would not change on first shift until 2200 rpms. Pulled over put it in park then back in drive and she was fine until the return home after town 2. On a take off after a stop sign (it tried the same thing, so let out of the gas and it changed at 1600). The next few stops I manually changed shifts at the range through the gears and got home.

I took it to my transmission guy (who's a friend) says I need a new torque converter and a rebuild (I get it back Tuesday). Then I can go back home to NC for a Rat rod hunt. R...

I think you need a new transmission guy, if it shifts manually but not automatically correctly then there is an issue with the valve body for the most part. Torque converter is certainly a possibility but it really just connects the engine to the transmission and allows the vehicle to idle without stalling out.

Default Thanks, another reason I shared

He had mentioned the valve body and we're checking that. I see him late this PM and will touch base. Hopefully I'll be back on the road next week. Will update the conclusion. Thanks again. R...

I have the same truck as you and we had the same problem. Just needed some linkage fixed in the shifter.

ramvan2500, you were correct. Took him 5 extra days, 2 return trips (he even tried to reuse the old solenoid). She's running good now and tow/haul working correctly under load. R...

well I am glad to hear it is all working and just as glad to hear I am correct :P I rebuild these transmissions from time to time so I have had my share of problems before. i offer allot of advice and all of it is geared :P towards transmissions. the automatics is what i specialize in when it comes to auto repair.

well if you ever run into another problem again do not be a stranger.
be sure to keep an eye on fluid level, fluids are just as important for old cars as they are for old people!
