Default Sticking park/Emerg brake - Drivers side

Hello

Am not sure if this forum area is the correct one to ask this question but here goes...

I noticed yesterday that the emerg/park brake cable return spring on the back of the wheel hub was still compressed as if the emerg brake was engaged however it was not. The brake lever that the brake cabe attaches to was also in an engaged position. On the passenger side the spring and brake lever that the brake cable attaches to they looked to be in normal released position.

I used a hammer and large flat screwdriver to tap the stuck brake lever back into its normal released position. The return spring on the brake cable is no longer compressed.

So I suspect that the emerg brak pads on that side are shot and some repair / lubrication / de-rusting of the emerg. Brake components is in order.

Can anyone point me to area on this forum where this type of repair is discussed.

To replace/inspect these components would I just need to remove tire, calliper, calliper bracket, pull off rotor? Make repairs and re-assemble? Or is it more complicated than that?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Greg

Default Seize park brake lever 2004 RAM 2500

I removed rear driver side tire, calliper, Calliper bracket, and removed rotor.
Emerg/ park brake completely worn. Removed park brake shoes! Very similar to regular drum brakes. There is an adjuster at the top and the mechanical lever assy at bottom of shoes. The levers at the bottom of the shoes which attaches to emerg brake cable at the back of hub were badly seized/ rusted. Sprayed anti sense and let it soak a while then worked them loose. Sprayed rust check all over them. Ordered a set (drivers and passenger sides) of new brake shoes from " parts for trucks" for $28 + tax. I expect other side has similar wear.

Will attach pics of the replacement parts.
