Default Headlight only works during daylight hours

Now I got your attention.

Both headlights work during the day as DRL's. When I turn the lights on to use them "properly", the passenger headlight goes out when on low beam. although high beam works as normal. If I switch the lights off it comes on again.

My old Fix Or Repair Daily F150 did exactly the same.

Any clues or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Graham

High/low bulbs run on different circuits. The DRL runs on the high beam circuit, so if you have a burnt out low beam bulb, then it won't work when you tun on the low beam circuit. Easiest way to check is to swap bulbs between sides, if the problem follows the bulb, the bulb is the issue; if the passenger side continues to be out then you're looking into the passenger side low beam circuit.

I blew the passenger side low circuit in my TIPM on my '07, and rather than replace the entire TIPM at $750, I just ran a relay off the driver side low beam line and switched the passenger side low beam that way.

Thanks for the explanation of how the DRL circuit fits in. I didn't realise that.I thought it was on the low beam circuit.

I haven't looked at it yet (only remember about it when its dark) so I would have figured the circuits on doing that.
The swapping of bulbs to test is also what I would have done when I get round to checking the problem.

The "relay fix" is a great idea, thanks for that one if I need it. So obvious when you think of it............how many have spent the fortuune on a new module, eh?
I'll be fitting spotlights very soon so will do it all together if the TIPM is the issue.

Having come from a heavily hacked apart '07 I know the electrical issues that can arise. I'd gone through a set of headlights, 2 sets of fogs, 2 HID kits, LEDs everywhere, and until I installed a proper fuse block it all ran off relays or battery/switch. I had so many power issues until I tore it all out and did it properly. You learn a thing or two by doing it wrong, even if you have to go back and fix it.
