Trying to get a sense of whether there's any truth to something I read the other day. That dodge is known for sticking the same MPG rating on trucks with the same engine no matter the gear ratios--so much so that the taller ratio rigs NEVER come close to sticker stated MPG ratings....
Ford does this also, mpg for a new GT with 3.31,3.55 or 3.73 gears have the same mileage ratting Pretty bogus if you ask me.

Off Post but I really like your Hood !! Its a sharp truck!

Default 3.92 8 speed advantages over 3.22

I understand there is a pulling tow weight gain with 3.92. what are the other advantages. Is there a fuel mileage drop with a 3.92 versus 3.22 even with 8 speed and the air suspension that i have ordered on a 4x4 crew?

I have a 2013 Laramie Crew 4x4 with 3.92 and 6 speed.

Canadian numbers are:

Best - 12.2 l/100km (23mpg IMP)
Worst - 13.6 l/100km (21mpg IMP)
Average - 13.0 l/100km (22mpg IMP)

translated to American:

Best - 19mpg
Worst - 17mpg
Average - 18mpg

These are all hand calculated numbers. Here's a comparison between what my EVIC says, and what it actually is:

EVIC Actual

12.5 l/100km 12.2 l/100km
13.2 l/100km 13.1 l/100km
12.7 l/100km 12.6 l/100km

I've only got roughly 4000km on the truck so far, so I suspect it may get a little better with age, but probably not by a lot. I'm happy with those numbers for a full size truck. I don't drive it hard, so compare these numbers to your driving style.

My window sticker said 15.8 l/100km city, and 10.8 l/100km highway.

I doubt the small increase in fuel mileage (if any at all) would outweigh the extra towing capacity of the 3.92.

I find having the 3.92 allows the truck to stay in ECO mode longer than the 3.55 equipped rental I had for 3 weeks. Also keeps it in MDS mode longer as well. Makes sense due to the lower gearing.

i had a 2013 3.21 8 spped with air sus.up to 3700 miles and Chrysler bought back wrong Gear.....I now have the same in 2014 as above except it now has 3.92 The 3.92 is almost dead even with the 3.21 with only 3000 miles...less than 1 mpg difference more like 0.4 mpg difference...The 3.92 runs way way better than the 3.21.

Pulled the camper about 5 miles it never pulled the 392 5 speed I traded in. crawled under truck drivers side looked at sticker on the rear end housing. It sticker had 3.21

I wanted the new air suspension and the 8 speed. Chrysler was great to deal with and the 3.92 8 speed is an awesome truck.

The sticker on my Ram claimed 13-18 with and average of 15....For the past 3 years it has been pretty darn accurate!
