Default Polishing Chrome Bumpers

While detailing my truck, I decided to clean up the front bumper. I am not at all impressed with the quality of the chrome, as there are more defects than not. However, I diccovered an area by the license plate that I must have scratched (tar / grit in the cloth) and used a chrome polish to go over it by hand (thumb). After I polished it (again, by hand and with a very soft piece of foam) I noticed a slight burnished appearance when I held a flouresent light up to it. I almost freaked out. I went over it with Meguires ultimate polish (awesome product) and it took most of it out. Upon very close inspection there is a slight difference in appearance though (nobody would ever notice it but me). Could it be that the plating is so thin, that even polishing lightly by hand could rub through the chrome? If that is the case, I cant imagine what it will look like in a few years. Any imput on the chrome on these trucks?

I'd polish it as best possible and then apply Opti Coat 2.0 over it. Optimum, maker of 2.0, swears by its powers of protection on chrome bumpers and wheel covers. I did it to my truck the first week.

I've been using Nu-Finish wax for over 30 years on wheels and bumpers; seems to hold up real well. I mentioned the bumper to my dealer, and was told if anything is not right in the future it will be covered under warranty. Just annoyed that the chrome is so "thin".

I just wax mine when I wax the rest of the truck. The chrome isn't as thick as it was on trucks 20 years ago, but I don't feel its too thin.

The other thing is, this isn't real chrome, just chrome plating.

I thought chrome bumpers were always plated, did they actually make solid chrome bumpers? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.

i agree with old joe here.

you could use something gentle like p21s polishing sopa then clean it real good and opti coat it.

here is my new front bumper that was cleaned with p21s polishing soap and then opti guarded (the pro version of opti coat)

Default chrome clad wheel

I just had my Chrome Clad wheels replaced under warranty on my 2012 Ram Express.I like the looks of the wheels and would like them to last so would Opti-coat provide the protection I need or is there another product that would be better ?
