Default Headers for xmas but which ones...?

So xmas is right around the corner and im going to be getting headers. After trying to scavenge for info i havent really found any answers. I was set on getting the JBA shorties but now ive been swayed away from them because every one is saying there is almost no HP gains. So what are the headers i should get? The reason i want short over long tubes is because i dont want to replace my cat and relocate my O2 sensors at least thats the impression i get from them not to mention the price difference. also why is it crucial to run ceramic over stainless? so far my mods go S&B cai, muffler delete y pipe, diablo intune with a hemifever 91 tune, BP catch can, and a 180 t-stat. I plan on getting a moes 87mm TB next month as well so that would be on there before the headers will. are all shorties going to be pretty much pointless and a waste of money, are there any out there that do show gains, or should i just go for the gusto and get the long tubes? Thanks guys

JBA is "apparently" releasing their Long tube headers for the RAM at SEMA this year. That could be another option...

If you have 2wd BBK Shorty headers should work for you

do they have higher performance gains over JBA?

I would imagine they produce similar gains. However they are a lot cheaper then the JBA

yeah i just saw that they are much more reasonable and even if there is a 1hp difference id never even notice it so the bbk seem like a better way to go.

You can run straight stainless headers with no issues, I did on my '07 for the better part of 2 years. The reason we all say get the ceramic coating is because it drastically reduced under hood temps, but for he I had a ram-air hood with heat extractors, so I never had a whole lot of air trapped under the hood.

To most people, the performance gains of long tubes outweighs the simplicity of a shorty install. If you get a proper header kit you get the headers catted mid-pipes, and y-pipe. A good kit will come with the O2 sensor extension harness, so there's not a whole lot of modification required.

If you just get the header manifold, then yes, you'll need to relocate everything and it'll be a PITA.

Not to steal the thread from the OP but that is my current debate.

Whether the price tag on Long tubes are worth it, specifically the Stainless Works ones...

If you're going for performance, then it'd be foolish not to get LTs. If you want better flow for a lower cost, shorties are just fine. In the end it's entirely up to you what you do, however, LTs have the best gains over a broader rpm compared to shorties.

Another thing that gets some people is the difference between 1 3/4" vs 1 7/8" primaries. In this case, bigger is NOT better, and will hurt performance unless you physically need the extra diameter to flow more air. Standard bolt ons with a programmer does not constitute a need for 1 7/8 primaries. They should be reserved for supercharged, nitrous, or stroker applications, outside of that you slow down your exhaust velocity faster with 1 7/8" and start creating back pressure.

The heat difference is that extreme? What if i got the chrome ones and wrapped it with exhaust wrap? are the shorties even worth it then over stock or will they be almost pointless?

I personally wouldn't heat wrap headers if they are already ceramic coated, or even if they weren't coated.
Moisture + Heat = Corrosion
