That tow chart link has some strange numbers. The base weight difference for some models between the diesel and the Hemi is only 90 lb, yet on other models it is 250 lb. On the plus side, the GVWR for the diesel is 150lb more than the Hemi.

Also, payload numbers stated include a full tank of fuel, so you don't have to deduct that in your calcs.

Good to know weight of a full tank is included in base weight. That makes sense as the incremental weight of the option 32 gallon fuel tank over standard 26 gal tank is 42 lbs, which seems excessive until you consider an extra 6 gal of gas is 37 lbs. BTW, it appears the 32 gal tank is not an option with the Ecodiesel, probably to accommodate room for the Urea tank.

I looked through most of the trim and configuration options and calculated weight of the Ecodiesel is consistently between 220 and 250 lbs more than the Hemi.

I'm not expert on the matter at hand but I would think that, just like everything else, the numbers given are far below what it could realistically hold. I say that because 10 times out of 10 companies put lesser numbers on their products for liability reasons. However, I can say that I've had a little over a ton of deer corn in the back of my 1500 and everything was fine. The tail end was sagging pretty low and she wouldn't stop on a dime but it had plenty of power to pull it and it drove just fine.

IMO I'd take a hard look at the 2014 3/4 ton Ram with that new rear suspension. You'll get a nicer ride like the 1500 and the payload you'll need for what you are carrying / towing. Plus that 6.4L Hemi looks like a sweet engine to have if you want a gasser. Also, even though the 1500 may be rated conservatively, should you load it up beyond the recommended limit and get into an accident you are opening yourself up to all sorts of issues with the law and insurance companies. Just something to think about.
