Default Dealer Integrity?

I called the Dodge dealer in my area yesterday for a quote on my 30,000 mile scheduled maintenance. I have used them since purchase and am I up to date on all scheduled service required in the Dodge owners manual.
Here is the quote in line items.

Rear Differential $109.00
Tune Up (plugs) $305.00
Brake Flush $140.00
Transmission/Filter $236.00
PCV? Service $90.00
Fuel Service $140.00
Power Steering Service $140.00
Air Filter (they did not quote this) Forgot I guess, or they have no manual to look at.

As you can see, they are way above what the owners manual says to do.
The service manager told me this morning when I went, he was looking out for me. That should I have problems, Dodge would want the records for these services.

I do not know what to believe at this point and left without letting them touch my truck.
My intention this am was to clarify the quote. And to have the plugs, oil change and air filter done.
I had to call and apologize for my language in the service dept.

Am I wrong or am I right? Do I need to have these services performed?

Lastly. Yesterday I got a quote from another dealer. They quoted the plugs and the air filter. Nothing more as I have already paid for 4 oil changes and oil filters up front. I was shopping the service.

Thank You very Much. ............John

I'd do the oil change and the air filter, thats it. Your wasting your money doing any of the other service, the plugs are good till at least 50,000 miles in my opinion. What exactly did the dealer say, the boogey man would get you if you don't have all the work done? Its a huge profit margin for them, so thats why they want to do all the work.

The schedule maintenance says 30,000 mile for the plug change. This has been beat to death here and on every other Dodge forum. The plug change is REQUIRED. And so is the air filter along with the oil change.

LOL, that is just plain funny, but all Service Department say it, not just yours

just get your spark plugs from ROCK AUTO, buy the
NGK Part # 92174
{#LZFR5C11} Standard
Engine Code EZD; Gap .044; OEM/OES Spark Plug
$3.45 each, you will save a bunch of $$$, let them do the Labor
( it is the stock plug that came in it originally )
tell them that you want your Old Plugs back, you will see that they look like new, both electrodes are in good shape, no rounded corners, the coloring is good, slightly tan
* i changed mine at 42,000 miles & found this to be true

let them do the PVC, IF you believe it needs it

don't do the Brake Flush until you need the brakes worked on

fuel service, just use SEA FOAM, do it yourself
don't put it in the oil as they suggest, that may work with a 10 year old vehicle, but you don't need it

change your own Air Filter if it is dirty, get it any any auto parts store
wipe or vacuum out the air box, when you have the filter out

the Service Department does not go by the Owners Manual, they tell you anything to make a Dollar
Go by the Owners manual !!!

(personally, i changed the rear differential cover, so that it has a Magnetic Drain Plug & the cover does not need to be taken off to check the fluid coloring & to check for metal shavings)

owners manual page 392, maintenance schedules

30,000 Miles (50,000 km) or
30 Months Maintenance
Service Schedule

filter.
❏ Rotate the tires.

❏ Replace the spark plugs (3.7L and

36,000 Miles (60,000 km) or 36 Months Maintenance Service
Schedule
❏ Change the engine oil and engine oil filter.
❏ Rotate the tires.
❏ If using your vehicle for any of the following: Dusty or off-road conditions. Inspect the

❏ Inspect the brake linings, replace if necessary.
❏ Inspect the front and rear axle fluid, change if using your vehicle for police, taxi, fleet,

GT. Thanks.
I have all the information your provided. I don't do any work myself. But the filter sure does look easy enough!

I just got off the phone with customer service. They put me on hold for 15 minutes and came back and said the exact words the service manager said to me this morning.
They got their stories straight, before she talked to me.

It was as if she taped his story and read it back to me.

The customer service lady knew absolutely nothing. I am now waiting for a supervisor to call me back within 24 hours.

I want to know why these things are suggested? And why they inferred the inaction on my part may cause any further warranty claims to be denied?
I want to see these suggestions in writing. If they cannot provide these suggestions in writing, I want to know why they are recommended in the first place?
And if it is really true?

RSH- Is there another dealer you can go to? As pointed out above, the procedures suggested by your dealer seem excessive. And.... who the hell has $1300 to drop on a regular maintenance?

Put it this way.. If you are in alignment with the maintenance schedule in the book, and have the records to prove it, you are fine. They are jacking you. It is for this reason I hate going to the dealer and preferring to do the work myself. I don't try to guilt myself into spending more money.

Thanks everyone. I do have another dealer, but it is a bit further away.

I did talk to the service manager again yesterday when I called him back to apologize for loosing my temper in the service dept.
While I know he was just trying to make money for the company, he was wrong in quoting it the way he did.
I think from now on, I will make sure they quote what I want done, instead of them quoting what they want to do.

Keep in mind you don't have to do any of this work. Just because it says so in the manual doesn't mean squat. The always hold this "but we won't honor the warranty if you don't get this done" over your head. Don't buy into it. If your AC stops working can they say thats because you didn't get your spark plugs changed?

Quick update.
I got a call from the supervisor at Dodge customer service yesterday.
I explained what happened and he had nothing to say or ad. He agreed with my point, yet he would not give any concrete answers.

He did hint that these extra services not performed, could cause warranty issues down the road. Then he corrected himself several times after he said that.

So beware if you do not do you're own work. The dealers have no direction and can say and do anything they want without any oversight.
Secondly there is nothing in writing other than the manual.

He made no offer to resolve anything. I am not sure I want to do any more business with these people.
I have already paid for 3 more oil changes. What I do in the future depends on how I am treated in the very near future.

I am disappointed in their lack of credibility and consistency.

So the question still exists. Should more be performed than the scheduled maintenance and if they are not will this effect my extended warranty.
