Hi all. I'm currently thinking about trading in my '11 ram for something new mid- to late-2014. Has anybody heard when the next redisgn will be for the ram trucks?

I would hate to buy a 2015 or late 2014 only to have them redesign the truck a year later.

Well the 4th gens came out in 2009, and the mid cycle refresh was in 2013, so I would think it would be around 2017 or 2018, but who knows? Ram may even move the year around based on the competition. The half ton truck segment is one of the most competitive market segments in the automobile industry, if not the most.

Actually, according to the Ram representative I spoke with a month ago, he stated that Ram has actually reached a level of nirvana ushering forth perfection in the shape of the Ram series of trucks. Expect this generation to prevail for at least as long as the competitors newest generations survive. With GM just releasing theirs now, and Ford releasing in 2015, their cycles will run at least 5 years. So expect the perfect 4th generation of Ram to prevail and prosper until the year 2019 or 2020 before being superceded by a yet greater level of perfection from the Ram boys. My goodness, be still my beating heat! How much better can it get?

My best guess would be a complete new truck in 2016. In 2006 they did a major refresh on the 1500 and it ran through 2008. However, like others have said, the 5 year old fourth generation Ram is equal to or beating the new 2014 GM truck. Consumer reports just tested a 2013 Ram against a new 2014 GM and although the GM truck came out a point or two ahead they made it very clear that they actually thought the Ram was the nicer truck. I think Ram got hit on payload pretty bad. Popular Mechanics jsut compared them and the Ram beat the new GM (and the older Ford design). Unless the all new 2015 Ford is really really good I think it could be possible for this generation of Ram to run until 2018 or 2019.

That means I'm probably pretty safe waiting until 2015 I suppose. I just didn't want to buy a new truck then the year after that, a new design comes out.
