You really need to look for the flaws under very good florescent lights. They are very hard to see in the sunlight. Next time I buy a truck, I may take a friend of mine who is a pro detailer with to help me check it out.

I did find an extra bolt laying loose in the front passenger door map pocket. Hopefully it was from shipping and not a bolt they forgot to install at the factory?
I have the same bolt in the door map pocket. Lol

Check your door hinges, I had a bolt not all the way tightened on my passenger front door. Truck was built Sept.7

I can confirm paint is still an issue as my Longhorn is in the shop right now having both the tailgate and hood re-painted. There were spots where the robot painting the panels obviously missed it's mark or didn't have enough paint left.

We'll, I spoke too soon regarding the paint on my truck. When I looked over my paint, I was more concerned about damage like I had on my previous order and I missed several imperfections in the clear coat and a small dent in the hood. My first mistake was looking at a wet truck (tons of rain lately) but my only other option was to take it into the poorly lit shop to dry it off and I may have still missed it. I washed the truck the day after I took delivery and found where the edge on both sides of my hood above the fenders were not painted completely and it shows a light blue line due to thin paint all the way down the hood. Really stands out when it's dry and light is applied in the area. So now I am facing the option of having the entire hood re-painted and if they are not able to repair the clear coat issues without paint, they would also be re painting the front fender and the bed on the driver's side. That's a lot of paint work to be done on a brand new vehicle. I wish my truck would have spent more time than a day or less in final inspection to catch these issues before it was shipped. My neighbor painted cars for a living and said it looks like they tried to push the dent out but did a half ass job at it. He said he would be embarrassed to put his name on the careless paint job my truck came with. I spoke to the paint shop at my dealer and they said they are seeing a lot of paint issues on the 2013 and 2014 Ram 1500's. Unfortunately for me, this truck is actually my 3rd order since 02/2013 and my patience and I'm sure that of my dealer has probably come to the end. I can't and won't go through this again waiting for another order. (First truck built with the wrong axle ratio and second truck was damaged in shipping). I guess the moral of this story is to be extremely vigilant when looking over the paint on your truck BEFORE you take delivery as you will be stuck with it after you sign on the dotted line. Other than the poor paint finish, I love the truck!

Thanks to this forum I checked both the gears under the truck and the hinge pins at all four doors - and many other things! Truck is very nice for the most part. I have noticeable orange peel on the paint in the door jamb areas but that's it. Doesn't bother me.

Love the truck! Might be my favorite vehicle purchase ever!

I too like my Ram...except for the paint issues. I was actually considering trading for a 2014 early next spring. I have pretty much decided against that just because I don't want take a chance on bad factory paint. I have the paint on my 2012 in pretty good shape . I don't want to mess with paint on another new truck. I'm buying new tires instead and will continue driving my 2012 for another year or two. I'll still have the power train warranty.

I was back at the dealership again today.

Had to have a seat cushion replaced under warranty and a seat belt replaced on my own dime. I was is the showroom/customer lounge for a couple of hours while the replacement was being done. Not at all good for my Ram paint obsession.

There were two very nice Ram Express's as well as a couple of Jeeps on the floor so I checked them out. One Express, a red Quad Cab, had a dealer installed Sport hood with scoops. (I wonder for this hood installation. But I do know this dealer adds pricey accessories to a few of the vehicles in its inventory. ) The dealer painted hood was perfect and the rest of the truck had only a couple of minor nibs, very little orange peel and no runs that I could find. Being a Quad Cab, it was assembled at the Warren plant. I'd take this truck home, but not in red. The other Express was a dark metallic blue regular cab. Very good paint except for a couple of pretty fairly noticeable etched out spots right in the middle of the hood. It appeared that the spots were through the clear coat. Must have picked those up while on the lot or while it was in-transit from Mexico. I would not accept this truck.

Oh, both Jeeps had good paint, especially the 50K+ Grand Cherokee Outlander.

I'm still interested in what new Ram owners are finding related to the paint on there 2014's. I installed some sort of expensive Michelins on my 2012, but am still thinking about ordering new Ram in the spring and put the Michelins on the new truck.
