Default Review of AFE CAI

I've installed a cold air intake in all of my vehicles. I was a believer in the power gains and improved throttle response. I looked at several other intakes, I'll give you my reasons for my decision.
1. Cheapest
2. Quickest install
3. Good brand
4. Read of the existing intake systems on the rams were good from the start.

So the AFE is like adding a larger filter and a larger diameter tube. Hardest part of the install was the factory clips on the sir box. They were a pain to get on. Once on they work well. Pay attention to where the air temp sensor is, want it facing the same way.

Performance:

What everyone cares about. Throttle response was slightly improved, seems to have less dead pedal when accelerating. The noise is a quick initial intake sound of air being sucked in followed by a deeper V8 roar. The notice sounds much better and the most noticeable difference. Not sure any performance gains or improved fuel economy. But overall satisfied.

Thanks for the review, Chuck. Got any pics of the install?

I will have to try and upload some photos later. The install document that AFE sends (also on their website) comes in color and is fairly easy to install. I found using a rope to pull on the clips on the intake box was the best way to get them to go over the hooks on the new AFE shield.

Now that the weather is a bit colder outside, the intake sound is more noticable when giving it some gas. If it's under 3500 rpm you won't even know it's there. But once you step on it, you hear the intake sound then a nice deep hemi V8 sound.

So I will give a quick update on how things have been with the intake. It's really cold here now, about -26 to -30 degrees celcius. Normal driving you won't really tell it's there, sometimes you can hear the intake wistle a bit under normal throttle. The mid end to high end RPM the truck has more pickup than it used too. Sound under WOT is a bit louder and deeper, improvement over stock.

Overall: I'm satisfied with it. Install wasn't the hardest except for getting those clips on (use a rope to pull them up). Have not had any issues with them falling off or any rattling. Everything still works great! I would recommend anyone wanting a less expensive S&B or Vararam intake to give the AFE a good look. For your money, I think it's worth it. Total I think I spend around $220 with shipping on this (that's Canadian). I got it from Auto-Anything when they had a sale on. Ended up saving somewhere in the $50 range. Have some pictures but I am still trying to get them to upload.

look forward to seeing this. I like the looks of this intake and also like how it uses the factory air box.

I completely agree with all that you mentioned here. those damn clips gave me the most trouble but i finally got them in and i couldn't be happier. AFE intake for this truck is deff worth it and it woke up my hemi a bit too.
