Spike will become famous soon enough

I have the 3.21 gears and 33's and it stays in 8th on the highway except for a steep enough grade.

I thought manual mode only displays the top limit gear, not the gear you are currently in.

When you select the manual mode, it will default your top gear to whatever your current gear is. For instance if driving at 45 MPH in 6th gear and you hit the down arrow button it will show 6 as your currently selected top gear. You can then hit the up arrow to go up to 8 if you want. It's an easy way to determine what your current gear is. It would be nice if current gear was an EVIC choice.

3. Coast until you reach 65 mph or so - as if you just came up on a slow moving truck passing another. Don't touch the gas.
4. Press Resume. The truck will downshift to pick up speed faster and settle back in at 74, but won't upshift to 8th again when it gets there. RPM about 2600.
5. Press Gear+ to drop to upshift and drop to 2000 RPM.

Note it did lock in 7th at least once when I was not using cruise but had slowed down, then sped up again.

This only seemed to happen in the 70-75 mph zone. When I was on highways with 55 or 60 mph limits it would cruise along around 1600 RPM, I'm assuming in 8th.
Just tried this on a 2014 truck (5.7L, 8HP70, 3.92 axle) and could not duplicate your problem (it would shift back to 8th when it reached about 72 mph). Not sure if there are calibration differences between 2013 and 2014. I am trying to get my hands on a 2013 truck to repeat the same test. I'll let you know if I find one...

Mine was built in May or June if that helps. Do you have access to calibration/software updates to know if any were made since then?

Sounds like yours was a late build, so I doubt there are any updates out there (although no, I do not know for sure). You can check with your dealer; they would be able to check your current TCM software level and see if an update is available.

Also, it looks like all of our 2013 trucks are gone, so I can't find one to evaluate. You could ask your dealer to record your truck (doing the stuck-in-7th maneuver you noted) using their scan tool, and then upload that recording to Chrysler. Have them record (if possible) engine speed, turbine speed, output speed, current gear, target gear, vehicle speed, throttle position, cruise control status, and engine torque. When they upload the recording, post your VIN (last 8 digits) and dealer code (5-digit dealer number) and I will try to retrieve the recording and take a look at it. Ask your dealer to save a copy just in case I can't find it (I can have them e-mail it to me if that's the case).
