I know vehicles are no strangers to rust and especially on trucks with their large surface areas (typically the wheel wells of the bed and rear quarter pannels) are extraordinarily prone to rust. Being this is a barely used truck (bought at 8k miles) I don't know if there was any rust protection put on and I don't want my body rusting though in the least bit!
I live at the jersey shore so salt air is very common and salty roads, though not as bad as say canada or upstate NY, are still common during the winter here. I want to keep my truck as rust free as possible. it's not a work horse or a trail killer or anything like that meaning I'm not beating the snot outta it in mud holes or launching any boats at all.
Should I worry much about rust, what can I do to prevent my truck from becoming a rust bucket besides basic washing and waxing. or am I being paranoid over the entire thing and over-thinking it?
On a side note, I have a 2003 dodge neon and though it wasn't meticulously taken care of in recent years the way it was when I fight got it, it doesn't have any rust on the body.
Should I keep doing what I do or is there anything you guys would recommend
