Default How do I check if I have limited slip diff

I have a 2010 that is approaching 120K and I need to change fluids again. I want to do it myself, but I don't have the original sticker to see if my truck has a limited slip diff. What is the easiest way to check, VIN or code on the rear diff itself. The Haynes mentions that limited slip rear axles need to add a Mopar additive.
My VIN is 1D7RV1GP9AS105438

One nice thing is that with almost 80K of my miles driving it has been 16.5 mpg with lots of driving on logging roads in 4x4.

have CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE mail you a BUILD SHEET
all you have to do is request it, it is FREE
http://www.ramtrucks.com/webselfserv...ailForm('R')

it looks like they changed the website a bit, just call them, & request it, you will need your VIN# & current mileage

everything on your vehicle is on the sheet, it is so much better then the original window sticker

The easiest way, and funnest way IMO, would be to get on some concrete and light 'em up. If you see a skid marks, you know you have limited slip because both tires will have spun.

Or you could do this ^^^^^. Probably not as fun or exciting. It would be safer, but it would take a jillion times longer.

the info comes usually within a week
as you said, looking for 2 tracks on the road is more fun

If you could see my tires (heavy lug traction) you would know that I would tear my u-joints long before I got good skid marks. I usually lay down some rubber pulling up before I side-swipe an elk or deer crossing the road.

Thanks for the earlier link. I'll give them a try.

by skid marks, they mean burning rubber on take off
if you only have one tire mark, you don't have Limited Slip
if you have 2 marks, it is likely that you do have LSD

if you do have LSD, you will need a special friction modifier, that is designed especially for LSD

The website worked directly with my VIN. It has a conventional rear diff. Plus it said it was originally a Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Explains some of the weird paint scratches and crusty concrete on the bed. Also I picked it up used after less than 2 years with almost 40K of rental use. Good enough for a personal-company work truck for me.

You would be well advised to request the Build Sheet & get it mailed to you
it will tell you how the vehicle was built
what differential ratio, 3.21, 3.55. 3.92
what radio they installed
what wheels came with it
& every other thing

it is the same thing that your Dealership parts dept. see when they are looking up parts for you

I just went to this site. You can type in your VIN number and it will pull up your build sheet and you can read it. You can print it if you like. That's faster than the mail.
