I think the key is that now they are claiming the coolant is the issue, and want the trucks switched back to the 2012 formulation after a hose change on the ones that smell to eliminate the possibility of a reaction again.

When I finally get parts and it all gets changed out I will update everyone. Mine didn't smell when I first got it, it took a week, so I will drive for a while after the repairs waiting for the stench when I come to a stop...

Ok, just got off the phone with Customer Support and here is what they said.
" We are pulling up 3 codes on your truck ( I never saw them) a P0306, P0308 and a P 0303 which have to do with the OBD 2. The 3rd and 8th cyclinder are misfiring. It could also be the battery swelling or water on the evaporator core". a) How can they pull up codes that I have never seen? b) How many different things could it be ( been told it was the " cosmoleen burning off or the labels on the exhaust pipes burning off). Has anyone REALLY gotten any REAL answers AND fixes to the problem? Or are we just to keep chasing our tails?

I believe that I have the same issue, and dropped the truck off at the dealership today. The service writer definitely smelled it, and they asked me to leave it overnight and they're going to call me in the morning. Has there been any consensus on what trucks might have this issue? Is there a range of build dates? Are they all 8 speed transmissions? Four wheel drive? Crew Cabs?

Maybe we can narrow it down a little. My truck is:
2013 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman
Cab: Crew Cab
Engine: 5.7 Liter
Transmission: 8 Speed
Drive: Four wheel drive
Heavy-Duty Transmission Oil Cooler: Yes
Build Date: ?????? (bought 1 month ago)

For those with the stinking hose issue, can you post your info as well? Maybe we'll see a trend develop.

How do you determine your build date? I'll post mine up when I figure it out.

On your driver door is where the sticker is. It will say month year and plant assembled at.

My 4x4, Hemi, 8-speed Longhorn was built in April, 2013. Only odd smell from mine is an ammonia smell from the exhaust. I only smell it when my Ram is idling and I'm a few feet from the exhaust pipes. I don't smell anything inside the cab.

Well, my truck is STILL at the dealership. They tried to blame the smell on my S&B intake today. I asked the tech writer to smell the coolant tank and he immediately said they need to keep it overnight again and look at it again in the morning. I think they are probably wrong about the intake, but I suppose it's possible that he's onto something. Has anyone had a weird smell from an S&B intake?

I have a little over 7000 miles on my truck and temps went to 26 degrees this evening. I had to use the heater. After its on for a few minutes on heater mode the stink starts coming out. It made me sick and got a bad buzz off of the smell. I was chemically poisoned a while back and smells such as these really get to me. I guess I call the dealer tomorrow and tell them what's going on. Mine has a build date of 11 / 2012 and I've had it since March of this year. Now I'm pissed cause this is my health they are screwing with....

Okay, the dealership just called and confirmed the issue is OAT coolant reacting with sulphur-cured hoses, and the solution is to change the hoses and coolant. However, the hoses aren't available yet. They did say that it was okay to drive and won't cause any issue besides the smell. The smell is kind of a big deal for me though, since I don't want it to work it's way into the interior of the truck and smell that way forever. My wife is pregnant, and besides the possible chemical reaction issues, she REALLY doesn't like the smell. It took a lot of convincing for her to allow me to buy a new truck, and now neither of us is very happy with the purchase. Hopefully Chrysler makes this right, and does it quickly.
