Default Fog lights

I have a base line 06 no fog light but I have the bumper opennings and the wire harness appears to be set up for fog lights so the question is can I install factory fogs simply with new lights and a switch? Anyone done it and what about cost?

My dad did it with his 03 years ago. I can't be sure but I think there was an extra pin in the switch for the fogs.

Yes, you can. Get some fog lights that will mount up to the 3rd gen bumper, then you'll probably have to get an OEM switch with the fog light option and put that in.

If you check out ebay there are a lot of kits to do this. A quick search and this looks good.

My 05 actually had the harness all set up. All I had to do was plug in the fog lights and replace the factory switch with a new factory one that had the pull out for the fogs.

Since you have an 06 once you do the install you might have to go to the dealer so they can basically tell the computer it has fog lights so use them! I could be wrong though. That might just be for the dash indicator.

As the other have said yes you can. It depends on where you buy the kit. I have seen them on multiple sites including eBay priced from $130 to $200 plus shipping. That includes the light housing, bulbs, wire harness, bezels and factory switch. I paid $141 shipped on eBay about a month ago. Here are a couple of links. The first one is who I got them from. The 06 will be different but you can search the sellers for an 06 set up.

This is what I did. I have a base model 04 Ram QC with the 5.7L engine which did not come with fog lights. However, the harness was there in the engine compartment. I bought the mopar kit on eBay which came with a new headlight switch with the fog light option and it worked. The install was completely plug and play.

The only other thing you will want to check for is that there is a fuse in the foglight spot on the fuse box.

Yes, yes! That could be one of the those things that make you scratch your head and cycle through the adult language dictionary a few times if you don't do this one simple thing.

I have an 08 1500 that also didn't come with factory fogs, but it looks like the wiring is there. If I were to buy the Mopar kit, could I swap out the stock bulbs for something brighter like LEDs?
