The straight six is a very solid engine. Many of them (mine included) had piston slap so bad you would have thought it was a diesel. IMO they ahd plenty of power to get you out of a jam, but not enough to break things. I did replace the intake and the exhaust manifolds later on with a better design. Mine did have less common combination of the AW4 trans and the quadra trac tcase. I had to replace the VC at about 200k which is to be expected, and I put lockers on both ends. That trans still is the smoothest shifting unit I've ever driven. including the 8 speed on the ram. Solid, fast shifts that never slipped, but never jarred into gear either. Even under full throttle. whomever programmed and set up that trans was a god.

Then again, I've heard of lots of people with gremlin ridden jeeps out there too. I just got a lucky one perhaps.

oooohhhh... don't let the crews from SD hear you on that one. most of the true rock crawling trail rigs out there started out life as zj and wj's I know there's another big group in CO that's essentially 100% jeep as well.

it's awesome, and sad though, that so many a 'niner went into rock crawling when they were so suited to life as a AWD dragster... but that's a story for another thread.

So can an Explorer, Acadia, etc. I'd love an SRT8 Jeep, but I will never have one. I do have an '11 LaredoX with Pentastar. It's a perfect all-weather vehicle for the wifey.
The Supercharged Range Rover is a different kind of animal that I wouldn't put in the category you listed.

Drive one and you'll get my drift.

I'm sure I'll never drive any. From a pure numbers perspective, SRT8 Has it beaten to 60. After that, the RR pulls away (until 138!). It better for +$46K. For that money, you can sent your Jeep to Hennessey for the HPE650 package, and it will blow all of the above away (and still have money left over in your pocket. I'm not saying it's the best or fastest. I'm just saying it's pretty damn good compared to the closest competition -- that costs nearly double.

2013 LR RR Superchargered:
Zero to 60 mph: 4.7 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 11.1 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 19.8 sec
Rolling start, 560 mph: 5.2 sec
Top gear, 3050 mph: 2.5 sec
Top gear, 5070 mph: 3.4 sec
Standing -mile: 13.1 sec @ 108 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 138 mph
PRICE AS TESTED: $114,930

2014 Grand Cherokee SRT8:
Zero to 60 mph: 4.6 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 11.9 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 24.7 sec
Rolling start, 560 mph: 5.2 sec
Top gear, 3050 mph: 2.8 sec
Top gear, 5070 mph: 3.3 sec
Standing -mile: 13.2 sec @ 105 mph
Top speed (drag limited): 157 mph
PRICE AS TESTED: $68,665

PS. There are many WK2s that venture far off road. A stock one with stock tires can climb Hells Gate.

The SRT Cherokee would be a dream vehicle for me, I love them! If you can afford one you can afford to supercharge it and smoke everything that would be considered "in it's class)....Since I can't afford one I'll be content with my Hemi powered Grand Cherokee with the 8 speed.

Really nice road burner for a Jeep definitely BUT! For 67K? I would hold that money and put it down on the new and upcoming Supercharged 6.4L Charger!
