Default 04 mds?

Hey, I am looking at getting a new truck, and of course the Hemi. I was wondering if the 2004 Rams had the MDS, or if that went into the trucks later on. So, who better to ask then the Hemi guys? I for sure want to keep my 3rd gen body style, so if it exists, great, if not, I still drive a Ram
Thanks guys!

For 2004, HEMI = Yes, MDS = No

Yeah, it will be better MPGs, but if you looked for an '06+ you'll get MDS.

From what I've learned on this forum, the MDS does get you much better fuel economy but it's not easy to upgrade the aftermarket exhaust if that's something you would be planning in the future. I have an '03 Ram 1500 and it rocks. I'm a huge Ford truck fan, and although I still love Ford trucks, I'm really glad I got the Ram instead. I hauled about 4,600kg a distance of 120km today and the truck had no issues at all. And mine is bone stock. I never, ever had an issue with my Ram 1500. Going with a Hemi is pretty much the only choice you have. Anything less and you'd end up feeling that you short changed yourself. I don't know what kind of fuel economy the 5.9L Magnum would have but with a Hemi you have more power from a smaller displacement so that has to account for significant improvement over your engine. And by the way, the bone stock Hemi engine sounds great. It doesn't like a wet fart like Toyota's i-Force.

BTW: If you ever choose to purchase a one tonne truck, skip the Dodge and buy the Ford!

I have the 4.7L and it isn't a bad engine. No it's not a Hemi, but I don't really feel like I need the Hemi. Now I don't haul 1500lbs worth of stuff or tow 20ft trailers, but from what I do haul I don't even feel. It hasn't let me down and there is enough power there when I need it. I haven't had the need for a Hemi yet. The want for one.... well that's another story. So basically, don't short change the 4.7L, it is still a good strong engine.

The 4.7 engine is one probably my favorite. The Hemi is an excellent engine with very few problems as well. As for the MDS, a lot of people in my area see little benefit because of the mountains.
