The Forum and its members have contributed much to my expanding knowledge base (not to mention, the continuous drain of my bank roll ). I like to give back when I can and support the Forum any way I can so it may continue to enhance the Ram owner's experience as much as it has for me.

Spoken like a pure, true of heart, Ram owner.

It is funny (peculiar) how there are so many threads that I read and lack the input necessary, familiarity, or knowledge to comment and/or assist an individual. If I commented on each and every thread/topic I read my post count would be considerably higher. That doesn't mean that I am not somewhat familiar with most of the nominees over the past 3 years because it seems that I've had contact with each and every nominee in some way or another.

Back on subject...I've participated in the MOTM nominations, voting, etc... on a on again off again basis. If I personally see that a member I'd consider has already received 3 nominations, I forgo nominating them again and either vote for them at the appropriate time, or nominate someone I feel is deserving. Granted, mods are truly different than repairs and for the most part (in my experience) done as a matter of preference.

I peruse newer sections ($th gen..oops 4th gen) on more of a maintenance or repair aspect as opposed to mods. I think it would be fair if I said that newer vehicles have a different driver base than the older vehicles (1st, 2nd, and increasingly 3rd gen) that don't require as much maintenance, or rather up-keep, to keep them road worthy.

Just as our trucks are both united and separately individual, our member base is likewise both united and separate relative to the generations of the vehicles represented on this forum, including those who are fortunate enough to own a 4th gen.

There are highly helpful members that have a narrower (for lack of a better term) following, that remain to go largely unappreciated (maybe unnoticed is more accurate) by the majority (or at least a wide margin) of members of this forum owning vehicles still under warranty and/or covered my maintenance plans. I do not begrudge them and don't want to be offensive as that is not my intent.

I realize that members of the second and third gen sections are going to continue to be less likely to actually be voted as a MOTM, but that doesn't stop me from giving credit where credit is due more as a pat on the back for jobs well done. I guess it could be considered an honorable mention.

It is for those well known members as a minority that I want to say that I appreciate the help and devoted experience they give to this site on a daily basis and know that you don't go entirely unnoticed.

It is to the members that have gained the knowledge and experience that quite often leads the newer members of the older trucks to this site to resolve an issue that they are having, to join the site, that I consider for nomination, as well as the members of the newer trucks that have the experience to help a member with an older truck, the member's helpfulness in general, and the member's ability to keep topics informative, helpful, knowledgeable and with some humor when necessary. (None of that came out as I had wanted and sounds somewhat one sided. That was not my intent maybe I meant more of members with general all-around knowledge of more than one gen, how to use the site, and mods all rolled into one. But that's not entirely correct either)

MOTM can be frustrating for me and at those times I tend to bow out and let it continue on its course.

Well said, Drew. And although you are the proud owner of an earlier generation Ram, I don't think you have a narrow following or go largely unappreciated because sometimes you are just so damn funny! You truly are an Off Duty Ninja.

(Blush) in all honesty, I was not referring to any such Off Duty Ninja.

I was referring to others I have been acquainted with.

I made my comment on this thread back several months ago, but have had a bit more time to reflect on my answers and those above.

Whilst I still think that there should be a period of time before a new member can vote, I'm also wondering if it should be set up a little differently?

Why do we have it where the people that we have voted for is visible to everyone else to see?

This to me just adds to the "pile on" affect.

Counting of the votes has to be done at some point, so why not have it set up so that the votes go as a PM to somebody and only at the end the winner is announced?

In my opinion there certainly is a core group of people that are here daily, and as Warlock says, maybe not able to help on every topic or not available to help on every topic, but they never get a chance because of (in my opinion) said "pile on" affect, but are certainly deserving of a nomination.

It's obvious to me that the members here are doing what they do because they like the site, their trucks and people in general, and not just for the fancy badge, but I think with the open forum some deserved members get missed.

Maybe this creates more work for the mods (and sorry if it does), but I think this solution could work, and at the end of the month not only could you post the winner, but also the members who were nominated?

I can't speak for anybody but myself, but I do feel kind of bad for only being able to narrow my choices down to two people and then making it public, when at any given time I could nominate almost everybody on here for one reason or another.

I'd say just my 2 cents, but since I commented earlier I guess I'm now up to 4??

I agree ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ a confidential nomination system would be better IMO.

^^I fully agree with both of the above^^

I also agree that there should be a minimum post count, and that the post count shouldn't reflect posts that welcome newbies...only to increase their post count.

Maybe there should be a minimum amount of reputation. That would minimize newbie reps until they have established themselves, and reflect the actual helpfulness of the member being nominated. It would also add credibility to the member and give the Reputation scale some value. As opposed to just posting in the newbie section to raise a member's post count. I'm not saying that welcoming newbies doesn't have it's value (hi I'm Jim welcome...Oh great Jim, I'm new here can you tell me where the bathroom is? Oh, well I'm sorry, I'm new here too you'll have to ask someone else). Just when it's done by another newbie it doesn't seem as genuine. It increases their post count in a somewhat flawed manner.

Rep value would confirm them as having longevity and being HELPFUL as opposed to being active.

There are member's here that spend years of their time helping other members and never get the pat on the bask that they deserve. Then, there are members that only do it for the pat on the back while listening to Dexys Midnight Runners.

The ineligible list will need it's own thread someday.

Thanks Jaron.

I just find it oddly peculiar when someone kicks in the front door, assigns them-self to the most comfortable chair and refuses to give back the remote. It would seem that there is either a lost sense of motivation, or an ulterior motive.

Cynical? Yes but it's due to experience. I'm always wary of people that have so much to prove through site domination.
