I am a fussy guy when it comes to my vehicle.....I would take it back and let them know that your not too happy and ask that it be redone....Playing both sides....You know that they added enough and you wont have any leaks....Why not use black.....If they would have you may not have even noticed.....

Because black is not the correct type of sealant for the application?

So far I've had good luck. A few months ago I got the recall notice and it said to wait for the next one. Well I was tired of waiting so I called my local dealer today just to check on it and they told me to bring it in and it would take about 3 hours. I dropped it off tonight after work and am going to pick it up after work tomorrow.
Now nothing was wrong and everything seems fine with my truck, I just got worried something would happen so I'm dealing with it. Sure hope it dons not create any problems. Oh well, good luck.

I'd hate to see how much of that sealant squished up inside the diff and is now cured and being chewed around in the assembly.

I'm picking mine up after work so I'm going to check it out before I drive off. It sounds like its just a specific dealer and a half ass tech so I probably wont have a problem, but if I do I'm not leaving until they do it right. Ill take a pic and let you guys know what happened, If it turns out as it should, if there are any of you in my area, Ill let you know what dealer it is.

Ok so I picked up the truck today, everything seems great. I guess since there was no problem the didn't have to open the rear end or anything so all they did as the invoice says is check pinion nut for looseness and install pinion nut retainer. They did some multipoint inspection and recommend a rear end service, I guess I was supposed to do it at about 20k but forgot and now its at 43k so I guess ill have to do it.

Now I have a question, since its under warranty still should I just bring it in to have it done at 125 bucks? Or should I just go ahead and do it? Now, my dad used to work for Isuzu customer service and he said that the way they get around warranty repairs is telling the customer that a certified tech did not do the work blah blah blah, so I'm actually thinking of bringing it in.

Anyone have any advise one way or the other? All I need is for the rear end to mess up and they tell me the warranty is void cause I did it myself. Thanks in advance for the help.

Orange RTV is what chrysler uses for axles, even from the factory you had orange RTV. Did they have to use 5 tubes of RTV on your diff cover there? No. When I seal a diff you don't see any RTV at all. Plus I use the Gray RTV, its also an axle sealant but is being phased out by the orange one. The Orange RTV smells horrible which is why I choose the gray one.

I bet you those bolt holes are full of RTV and the threads are now ruined. What a hack.

Chrysler's black RTV is only used in transmission applications because its resistant to ATF, Gear lube would probably leak through it. They also have a dark gray RTV that is used in engine applications because its resistant to coolant.

Good info Fricken and all correct!! I bought a new truck so I didn't have to work on it (turns out I do anyways) but I forgot how much I HATE someone else touching anything mechanical that I own. You always get BS jobs like that one. 3 loose oil filters from 2 different Chrysler Dealers.

I drop my truck off next Tuesday. Wish me luck in that they don't have to crack the axle open and that the tech knows how to properly install a pinion nut.

It's about time for a rear end service anyways coming up on 60 k and I generally service things way early for the cheap insurance of a tube of RTV and some fluids.
