Default Griott's 6 Inch Orbital

Going to order the 6 inch orbital. They also sell a companion 3 inch for tighter spaces. Anyone have both the 3 and 6 inch? Is it helpful or will the 6 inch be sufficient?

i have the porter cable and it uses 6" pads but theres not very many crevices i can think of that i would have used the 3" there was only a couple spots like under the mirrors where you could use it or maybe between the box and the cab in the grill it could be pretty hand i would imagine or the whole front end really

I have both and they are very good machines. The 3" will indeed get into spaces where the 6" is just too big and I find it is handy for scrubbing tasks with a yellow scrub pad. But for the few tight spaces involved, I am not sure it is worth the extra expense, as those areas can be done by hand. I use and like my 3" RO, because I have it, but if you are not wanting to spend the extra $$, you can get by without it.

another cheaper alternative would be to order the 3" backing plate and 3 or 4 inch pads for your 6 inch machine.

Both are excellent machines though, and you can't beat the lifetime warranty on the Griots 6".

Great idea to order the 3 inch backing plate, thanks! I assume it's an easy swap?

yup very easy.

i mean don't get me wrong the 3" machine is quite a bit smaller, but the 6" has more power. personally i would try the cheaper route first and just order the smaller backing plate and see if that helps you get to the tight spots.

This is a good solution, it may very well work for you. As Jeff said it is an easy swap and if you loose the wrench that comes with the RO, you can use a 9/16 or 14mm open end wrench.
