Default Another heater problem

From reading some posts on heater core problems, I think mine needs replacement, but I'm still not sure. I have the following problems:

1. truck has heat sometimes, but its Luke worm not hot (when it decides to turn on)
2. i smell antifreeze when heat is on, but no signs of leaks or drips.
3. The air comes out of the top vents only, even when I turn the controls to the floor.
4. Defrost setting fogs my windows
5. I hear a bubbling noise from the heater core, I "burped" the system a week ago and I am still hearing the noise.

I'm I correct about the heater core or is there any other ideas?
Any input will help
Thanks for your time!

Nope, sounds like you're right on the money. Time to start pulling out the dash.

Sounds like you may have a second issue aswell. If it only blows from the defrost you probably have a vacuum leak too.

Before tearing it apart to pull out the core, go with a heater core flush. Just did one on the wife's car, made a world of difference. It also had been giving a gurgle when accelerating, I think it was when it started revving up that there was enough pressure to push through the heater core. After the flush, the heater blows nice warm air and haven't noticed the gurgle either.

I'm not sure when they went to electric blower doors to switch from floor to dash, yours may still be vacuum. If so, a vacuum leak may be the culprit for that problem.

Good Luck.
