Odd's are it's was just the front pinion bearing, the 9.25 have a good history of these bearings going out. And to change that bearing you don't have to pull the gear carrier it can be done right from the front. Yes the Track locks have a bad rep, in most cases they go south because of lack of the use of the right oil additive or the lack of it.

As you have the ord truck it has 4.10 gears from the factory.

As I am new here I don't know if the forum has the FSM for dl but it would help you in your work big time.

You mind sharing what you figured out? Just in case someone else has the same issue and comes across this while searching?

Haha just that i needed the specialty tool to remove the whole trac-lock assembly, the tool which most already know is the OTC 6602 differential bearing preload wrench.

Also are there any manuals or complete breakdown of specs for the rear diff? My haynes manual has nothing in it. I need to know the tolerances for everything. (this is kind of a PITA haha)

Well this project of mine is getting the best of me , removing the pinion gear is seemingly impossible right now. I have been hitting a 2x4 with a 4lb hammer as hard as i can for 30 minutes straight and it hasn't budged.....Ugh losing hope haha.

Update: Going to call around to some mechanic shops to see what they will charge to rebuild the rearend, since my truck is pretty much dissasembled im going to have to remove the whole rear axle assembly. Since i already have all the parts im hoping for $1000 or less and im not going to the dealer because they are completely out of there minds on pricing. Well ill keep everyone updated on how this plan goes haha.

Awesome was just quoted with a full rebuild for $375 (I have all the parts and am pulling the axle out of the truck). I still need to buy a new ring and pinion gear, i have been reading that some gears make noise as they are not as high quality as others. Which set should i get? Yukon, G2 etc....?

Yukon or G2 should work fine. I'm not sure what my gears were since I reused the aftermarket gears that were already in there. They did make noise and it sounded like a tire hum from the rear end that you could hear above 50 mph.

They still made noise after you had it rebuilt?
