Default Engine Light Help Needed!

Just got a sweet 85 Dodge Ram with the slant 6 engine. Noticed the "Engine Maintenance" light is on beside the speedometer. How do you reset this light to make it go off?

You could disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes to resent the computer, however, if you do that, you won't know why the light came on. It came on for a reason, so you really need to find out that reason. Take it to your local parts store and let them hook their scanner to it and read the code(s).

Do the "Key Dance" or K3 check with the ignition and write down the 2 digit code to see why it's n before you reset the ECM.

The ECM can be reset by disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery. Cycle the ignition once to fully drain the system, and then re-hook the negative cable. If the problem isn't corrected the light will just come back on.

Maintenance required was a precursor to the CEL. Same thing.
