Ok, I think I figured out the discrepancy. I was looking on the Chrysler warranty site, and a $0 deductible lifetime warranty is nearly $4k but the Max lifetime warranty with a $100 deductible is $2400. I think the dealer was just quoting me the $0 deductible.

Default Lifetime Warranty?? NO-BE CAREFUL!!

I have a 2008 Ram with a "lifetime" drivetrain warranty. The dealer has done all of the work on it (oil changes ect. . . ), when it came time for them to honor the warranty for a seal leak(70K miles), Ram would not it because the truck had not received the 5 year "special" inspection. I bought the truck in September of 08 and it was in for an oil change every 3.5K and at the end of June 2012 and in December of 2012, but the dealer did not get a notice of the special inspection, so it was not done and now Dodge will not honor the warranty. Dodge is supposed to send reminders (they acknowledge that they did not send mine to the correct address). I have discussed it with Ram "Customer Care" repeatedly, but because I am outside of the 90 day window of beginning service in September (not true for the December 2012 oil change) and the dealer, while they did an inspection each time, did not get the notice on the computer for the the specified warranty inspection, so it was not done. I love my truck, but I have a real problem with Ram Care. They seem to be trying to find ways not to honor this warranty. I purchased the extended warranty also, but it does not cover items that should be included in the lifetime warranty, so it is worthless. The dealer has been working with me and we sent in all of the records and requests to the president of Customer Care over a month ago and there has been NO contact from them whatsoever. The sad part about this is that I am a loyal Dodge Customer who just purchased a Dodge Dart for my wife and put a lifetime warranty on it (two months before the debacle of the RAM truck or I would not have done it) and I have many people ask us about the Dart, but I cannot recommend the service or warranty at this time. I have been very patient with RAM care and gave them every opportunity to do the right thing and honor the "spirit" of the warranty to a loyal Dodge customer, but I do not want anyone else to go through this (my local dealer says I am not the only one), so be careful. Good Luck. If RAM Customer Care does come through, I will post that as well. Let's hope they can "step up" for their loyal customers.

Just a heads up on these lifetime warranties. If you have a vehicle that is 20 years old worth $3000 they will not give you a new $4000 engine. The warranty goes by the value of the vehicle.

Actually we will see if that is true soon mine an 08' with 127,000 miles, average trade in is just above 10,000. My motor developed a rod knock, took it in to the dealer, Chrysler voided it on the spot, even though I did the 5 year inspection which it pasted with no issues less than two months ago.

After lawyers were introduced, they made a special case file for my vehicle. Everything is pending til next week.

They did quote me a new motor for about $12,000, and said if the dealer installs it the warranty will be reinstated.

I'm glad this is a thread. I have asked this same question before and received so many different answers. I have read my Lifetime documents and it does not show a 5 year inspection in there anywhere, or in my warranty book. My owners manual wants me to go 7500 miles between changes. I go every 3000 miles and I'm going to try to force myself to go 4. From what I have read and have been told by the Dealer's Service Manger is that as long as the work is documented within the mileage, you are fine. The receipts are there to prove you didn't put a $1.95 Dollar store oil filter or recycled oil in a $40,000 truck. I asked about the mileage verses the months time frame ( 32,000 miles or 24 months for the tune up on a Hemi for my 2012 year ) and was told just go by the mileage, most people don't get 32,000 in 2 years. It sounds like we are all talking about our warranties, and some are getting close to 10 years apart and like everything else, they have differences. I paid, I think around $2200 for the Lifetime $100 deductible from Chrysler when I bought my truck because I plan on keeping until it falls apart and doesn't cover anymore. So then.... if the motor is $6,000 and the truck is worth $5,000 according to the NADA book , your coverage is then gone. ( 1st paragraph under " A service contract" header.). They just don't plan on people keeping vehicles that long anymore and you know most don't, and when they do, they either forget or just don't transfer ownership of the extended. Rams hold value pretty good so it should be a long while anyhow.

I don't think we can get a lifetime warranty north of the border?

Perhaps I will look into that?

Still waiting on a reply from Chrysler about my motor, no details except they wanted the dealer to do a oil consumption test which they can't. Also the dealer is trying to get out of the situation by saying they never checked the oil, but its on the receipt that they did.

New info, as of now Chrysler is not honoring the warranty. They also stated that all Chrysler motors consume 1 qt of oil for every 1,000 miles driving; once the vehicle exceeds 50,000 miles.
Saying that, mine had no oil consumption in the past 125,000 miles, but less than 3,000 miles later it consumed 4 qt. with no signs of use(smoke).
I call bullshit!

PS Chrysler warrant department tried telling me the engine inst part of the power train, I laughed hysterically at them!
