Thumbs up 392 Half Covers Installed!!!

As some of you know, I was planning on going with the 6.1 covers after reading Unbroken's post about these and getting a bunch of people saying it couldn't be done...

Well I HATE being told I can't do something! So I figured screw it and ordered them up. Honestly, I didn't think it was that bad, they have to be modded a bit to fit, but I knew that going in...

I really think everyone who wanted to do this read his post and figured it was just to expensive and hard. I have $75 in these for the covers and nothing else at all. I'll get to the details here in alittle bit...

This was only a mock up only, my plan is to get rid of the 392, I already have some chrome 5.7L badges that will go in there place, I also have chrome HEMI overlays to go on the HEMI writing. My overall plan is to paint them HEMI orange to match the valve covers and Vararam lid. The recessed part where the 392 HEMI is will be back along with the silver stripes. It is still alittle too cold here to do any painting so it will probably be a couple months before I can get it completely done...

Alright the details,

Passenger side:

Not bad at all, first the back will have to be cut out some to fit around the dipstick. Then the Harness is different on our trucks then the Chargers/Challengers, so I had to cut in between the 1st and 2nd coil pack to allow for the harness to come through. Other than that I just needed the plastic ball studs that hold down the fuel rail off a Charger or Challenger. Once everything was cut, it just pops into place.

Drivers side:

Alittle more to this side, but still not to bad. The same ball studs are needed for this side for the fuel rails. The way our fuel line attaches to the fuel rail was what I thought going to be the biggest obsticle. I ordered a 90* fitting, some nylon line and a new straight fitting with the intention of making a small line that would change the fuel line from a 45* angle to a 90* angle. Well I didn't need it. I simply bent the fitting very gently coming out of the fuel rail down alittle bit, and zip tied the stailness line to the injector harness. It hits the cover underneeth, but allows the cover to sit all the way down like it should. Next is the oil filler neck, on the Rams, there is the mount that the ball stud for our engine covers to mounts to, this need to be almost completely removed so the front of the cover can sit flush. Lastly is the opening for the fresh air line coming from the air cleaner, or in my case the breather filter with the Vararam, the plastic nipple coming up next to the oil filler neck. It hits the bottom of the cover and will not let is sit all the way down, flush. The only way I saw to fix this was to cut the cover allowing the nipple to stick thru, and then just attaching the breather like you usually would. Then the cover just pops on.

Here it is with the Vararam, obviously the driver's side is hard to see, but the passenger's side can be seen quite well...

While I love the look of them, and applaud nicely done custom modding like this, it doesn't make sense to me if not applied to a 392 engine.

So I take it you didn't read the whole post, just looked at the pics? There is a paragraph about how I'm going to shave the 392 off and apply 5.7L emblems. I'm not trying to misrepresent what I'm packing under the hood! I'm not finished, I also stated it was only a mock up to get them to fit, and I still had to appy the emblem and paint them...

I'm surprised you didn't just get the 345 or 5.7 covers like those that already exist.

Ahh- I read it, but it didn't sink in- sorry bud!
I didn't take it as misrepresenting, just great use of a better looking product
