One check is to take the oil fill cap off once it warms up and set it on top of the oil fill hole upside down. It shouldn't blow off. It will dance around a little but shouldn't do much more. This is a quick way to check for blow by.

Also a cold start will tell a lot. It should start in about 3 seconds. Watch the exhaust during this start, it shouldn't do much more than a puff of dark smoke.

The 5.9 is a great engine but they and the truck can be a money pit also. I suggest reading some of the Cummins forums.
Did that, didn't fall off, and it was tuned for a week, he told me he sold the tuner and removed the stacks. and started right up on cold start.

some one stated the fuel pump can go haywire, but i believe they switched to an intake pump which reduced failures. if it goes fass makes good fuel pumps. sounds like you found a winner. by the way, the mpg is pretty good for what you might be driving.

Picking it up Saturday, just took my 35s off my 1500 today... ha, but especially being a 2006 cummins, I figured most of the kinks gave been worked out. I really hope it all works out, but only time (and miles) will tell!

and he had a monitor and said he hand calculated about 17-20 MPG city on average. Compared to my 12.. So thats a huge plus!
