Default Tow/haul while not towing

I read somewhere around here that running in tow/haul mode while NOT towing/hauling anything is a bad idea? Is there any truth to this claim? and if there is, why? I can't see why it would, but I would like to know for certain.

I do it all the time ... Wish I could find a way to make the tow/haul come on with the switch and off with the button

The only thing running in tow/hall mode will do is lower your MPG. It holds the transmission in its power range and engine RPM.

Works well for in town driving.

Other than potentially lowering MPG, how/what could it possibly hurt? I also wish I could keep it on automatically for around town driving, and only turn it off for highway use.

I can't see any downside to it other than lowering mileage, which is not a big factor for in-town driving.

Upsides are smoother shifts by using 3rd gear, and it will also use engine braking.

I have the 5 speed, 5th over is overdrive & overdrive is when the MDS can kick in

I drive around town in 5th, it keeps the MDS from kicking in at 27 MPH & higher

MDS sounds sorta like farting in a bath tub at lower speeds

As soon as i turn onto a highway ramp, i shift into Over Drive & let MDS do its thing

MDS doesn't do a thing to help my mileage. So, why not drive in tow/haul.

Driving in Tow/Haul mode all the time will NOT hurt anything (except for a slight decrease in fuel economy). So feel free to use Tow/Haul all the time if you prefer it.

Tow/Haul mode resets after a key-off, since the "official" fuel economy figures were certified in "normal" mode. I believe EPA requirements force us to reset to "normal" mode on each keystart.

I almost always activate the Tow/Haul button when I am putzing around town. Keeps the tranny from constantly up/down shifting. If anything, it keeps the tranny temp normal that would be elevated with all the undue shifting. Mileage reduction won't be noticeable fir around town driving.
