Default 285s on stock 17's?

I just ordered 5100s for my 2014 1500SLT Quad cab. I'm planning on installing the Bilsteins at 2.1 and I would like to upgrade my tires to 285 70r17. I've read through brandonjansen's Leveling guide and saw that my stock 17's are 8in wide. Which would make them wide enough to run the 285s. But the Ram website has the stock 17s at only 7in wide. Can anyone confirm the actual width of my stock 17s and tell me if it's safe to use the 285s?

You'll be fine running 285's on a 7" rim.

OK thanks. Would there be any advantage, besides looks, to put the 285 70r17s on an after market 17x9in wheel? I'm thinking about getting Mickey Thompson 17x9 Sidebeter's with 0 offset 5in backspacing.

It would pretty much just be looks. The wheel itself would obviously look better and the truck would have a nicer stance. Having a 0 offset might slightly help with any possible rubbing issues as well but you shouldn't have any.

I'm trying to watch my spending but for $99 a wheel, i'm not sure I can pass that deal up. Thanks for the help. Especially the leveling guide, it sold me on the Bilstein 5100s.

$99 a wheel definitely isn't bad at all, can't complain about that.

No problem man! Glad I could help you out. Be sure to post up some pictures once you get everything on the truck.
