Default newbie here needs help!!!!!

I bought a used 1500 mega cab couple months ago and today I notice a wire hanging down under the steering wheel. Looked and found couple black boxes and what I think are to relays. One box had a extra key taped to it. Thought hey my lucky day ! Right ! Took the key off the later today went to move the truck and it would not stay cranked. It would start but the cut off. I taped the key back to the box and it would stay on. So what are these boxes?

First off this is the first gen section, so a chipped key is about as useful as a stick.

Secondly, It sounds like the key taped to the box has a chip in it and the one you're using doesn't.

I'm going to ask that this thread be moved to assist you better.

this could mean a few things one is that there is or was a remote start. The key taped to it is a common way remote starters to fool the truck into thinking that there is a key in the ignition when there actually is not. If you look about you might be able to find the brand on the box. The second could be that someone lost one set of keys and taped the chipped one to the module to allow for use of cheaper non-chipped keys.
