Default fueling up the truck

I purchased my '13 2500 cummins last week and filled it up last night for the first time. It was a pain in the azz to get the nozzle to not pop and stop filling the tank. I could NEVER get it to go "full" on and had issues keeping it on the first notch so I didn't have to sit there and hold it the entire time. This is my first dodge diesel, my previous truck was a F350 I had for 8 years. Was not thrilled to see a capless design last night when going to fill it, and really not impressed when its a PITA to fill for some reason. I can wait until I get a truck pump to try and fill it if it cant take the automotive style.

I remember reading somewhere about a recall about that issue. Take it to your dealership. Even if there isn't a recall, they should fix it for you.

Good luck!

I read what your talking about, but that looks like its for gas vehicles. Over a long list of them at that. My truck is diesel.

I have filled mine about a dozen times with no problems. Even full throttle works good. I use the smaller automotive nozzle when I fill up. I also put the nozzle all the way onto the neck. Heard theres 2 flappers the nozzle has to pass. One in the top and a second one down a little bit. And I DO NOT top it off. When it clicks off, I'm done. Hope this helps.

There's been several of us with the same complaint in previous threads....lots of ideas, but no real solutions. Mine seems to work best when I start with a trickle and slowly work up to the first notch...definitely a pain!

My neighbor and I were looking at it, and think if I use a small steel rod bent in an "L" shape to hold open the 2nd flap it may let enough fuel flow by with enough velocity to not trigger the shut off.. Who knew an engineer could screw up something that has been around as long as cars have.

Only stick the nozzle about a quarter of the way into the filler. I had the same issue but that's how I get past it.
