Default Quad Headlamp mod: Rigid Industries Hi-Beams

So, I came across a few posts by TruckDaily and EcoTint on Instagram. (For those of you not following them, check it out!) I have been considering pulling apart my stock Quad headlight assemblies to paint the Interior of the unit black to match the truck. I was going to leave it at that, until I saw this....

I want to wire the rigid light to my highbeam, and have LED backlighting as my daytime running lights.

My question to all you folks, is if you could foresee any issues with this set up? Be it installation, maintenance down the road, etc.

Has anybody on this forum done this mod, or seen a write up or how to?

Also, opinions! Thanks!

JJ from RetroShop did something like that just recently for a 2013 Ram.

https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...77788707_n.jpg

May want to contact him to find out the pricing. I think just for the heads, paint, retro and RI Highs it was around $2000 if not more.

My only concern would be if those led bars come loose and tilt down you would have no way of adjusting them, If you tighten the piss out of them then they should be fine, mounting them with brackets is probably a PITA as well.

That is pretty sick. I seen some of those grill mounted on a h3 hummmer and theyre were insanely bright.

I heard they have an insane price tag on them too though...keep us posted!!!

After scouring google for a few hours, I stumbled across a post on another forum. It looks like it has been done already, which is good news! It means everything fits. The downside is the poster with answers seemed to be a custom headlight shop, and seemed hesitant to give away too many secrets.

The next step is getting my hands on a pair of rigid D2's which aren't too expensive by the sounds of it. They are listed on the RI website at $400/pair MSRP.

The biggest issue I can see is mounting, because it looks like quite a tight fit. Does anyone have a pair of these that would off hand know if they can be mounted without the bracket that comes with it? A tapped hole on the bottom maybe?

Other than that, it seems like a simple mod to do!

The only holes on the lights are the 2 that mount into the bracket (can see 1 there on the side of the light). I doubt you would want only 1 side screw holding the light on, so maybe 1 screw and a lot of glue around the 3 edges ? But that might not work for heat dispersion or aiming.

It could be secured maybe using the bracket mounted to the back of the high beam housing area. Just a really custom job there.

I want to do this mod, too. It just makes sense, doesn't it? You have a set of bixenon projectors to handle your lo and high beams, but now your OEM high beams aren't needed. You could add a light bar, but this is a more custom look. You could also add an LED 9005 high beam replacement bulb, like the ones from vleds.com. One of their sets cost $200 and puts out 6000 lumens between the pair. However, the bulb is set all the way in the back of the housing at the OEM location, so I don't think you'd get the same "off road" style lighting. The Rigid Dully mounted in the high beam location is a great idea. You might also try taking a look at some KC cubes. They're a little less expensive and have a slightly higher output.

One more thing: do the Rigid Dully's get hot in front of the lens at all? I wouldn't want to discolor my headlight lenses. Also, how much heat do they put off on their housings? Could that heat melt the OEM light housing?
