Default Towing experience with your Ram V6

Hello everyone. I have my Outdoorsman V6 on order and the wife and I are getting a camper this spring. I was hoping some of you have had experience towing your camper with your V6. If so please share your feelings and details. Including your truck details, rear gears, 4x4, etc. What you are pulling and the weight. How long of trips you took, what kind of mpg you got but mostly how you feel the truck handles it. The wife and I are looking for a travel trailer around the 25' size with around 4,500lb dry weight. I believe the tow rating with my set up is 7,150 max so I think this size trailer would do well. We will only use it probably 10 or less times a season. Look forward to reading your experiences

you need to figure the weight with everything you bring on these camping trips, then figure the total weight.

Yes I know, that is why I said we are looking for something with around a 4,500lb dry weight. That being said its just me the wife and our dog. We are only talking weekend camping so minimal food, drink and maybe some fishing gear. Even if I pulled the camper with the water tank full I should still be well under max

I know you will really enjoy you new Outdoorsman as I have. You listed the max tow weight of 7150 max.

My Outdoorsman the max tow weight is 5,800 and that is with 3.55 gears. You may want to recheck your tow weight.

I have done many MODS on my truck. But I have not done any lifting, air cleaner change, exhaust change or tuners. I am not into removing good working parts for looks or power gain (sound). Also not a lot parts to chose from either for the Pentastar. I already have lots of wheel power and can smoke the wheels if I want to.

I did add a catch can to my Pentastar. I found oil on the throttle body and I did not like that. For a $150 bucks I think it was worth the money, JMO. My install thread: http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=159713

I only have 2 small trailers so I can't help you with this.

My Ram build sheet: http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=139676

The Outdoorsman package is the best choice for use full options. Guys are always adding the options that come standard with the Outdoorsman package.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.

Greg

Ya I will certainly double check the towing capacity. I found that on the Ram website. I know they said it changed quite a bit from the 13's to the 14's due to the parking gear in the tranny. I don't believe the 3.92 gears are available for the V6 so I can't think of anything else the truck would need to have that max tow rating. But that would make a big difference the camper we chose if its that much lower

I have pulled about 4,000 lbs with my pentastar, it did it with ease however it was on a low bed car hauler, not much surface area to catch wind.
When I bought my 13 I gave the dealer a build sheet for a 13 outdoorsman w/3.92 and it seemed as though it was available.
I ended up buying the SLT I have which matched my build sheet with the exceptions of the outdoorsman pkg, and I got 3.55 instead.

Wow that jumped up from 2013 by 1500#.

This stupid war the truck manufacturers have with towing cap, and GVWR is getting out of control.
