Greetings, just had one installed yesterday. Works great. By the pictures above 1st thing put the cable on the left side of the shock. 2nd put the extra little black clip in the cable about middle ways of the shock. 3rd you may need a thinner washer put on at the top hinge of the shock. When I put the asst. on first I did not use the black clip on the cable. The cable went out side of the tailgate & did not work right. Put the clip on all went back in like it did without the plunger. You may want to call DeeZee. Good luck in your repairs.

Greetings, Just had a DeeZee tailgate assist installed on '05 Ram 1500 Daytona today. You would not believe how easy the tailgate goes down now. No weight at all to lift up or down. Well worth the price. Very neat.!!!!!!!!

My .02 --
I've been in itouch with JoDee at DZ several times now, and I don't like the fact that I'm getting different answers from them. First she says they have an assist for the 2014 Ram 1500, but it won't be available until mid-Feb. It's brand new!
Then she gives me the "new" part number, and it's the same as the one for the 2012 Ram. When I asked her about this, I got yet another response.
I don't doubt that this works well for some folks, but I think I'll wait a bit until I hear something more solid, that doesn't require buying additional hardware for other mfg.

Im waiting to see what happens with this backordered bracket theyre sending me. Honestly, if it doesnt fix the issue, Im sending the whole damn thing back and getting my money back. The little runaround I got when I called was frustrating but as long as this new part fixes the issue, Ill be content.

So the ford kit showed up today. What the hell am I suppose to do with it? Which parts do I use and where? I suppose I could call them but after the last runaround, Im trying to avoid that.

^ Does it not have instructions? The only problem you may have, is having the correct hex or torx key to remove the Ram pin. Otherwise, follow the directions. Install is easy.

I wasnt sure if I needed to completely uninstall the ram model and re install the ford model or if it was just a couple pieces and parts i needed which is how the lady at Dee zee made it sound.

I also had to put a thin washer to make it clear. As for the cable getting stuck I was able to just slide the clip up a bit more on the cable and it now does not get caught.

Oh, sorry. You simply need to install the drop bracket (top) form the Ford kit. Keep everything else as backups. You may have the tailgate cable rub, so there are a couple of fixes for it (slimmer washer, something to block it, etc.).

Just got around to installing the parts from the Ford kit and the shock is the same length so the tailgate won't shut with the drop bracket and shock. This is ridiculous
