Default Installing aftermarket gauge on 8.0

Hello, I have been looking online on how to install an aftermarket gauge on my 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 with an 8.0 engine.. The gauge on my cluster went out so now I want to put in a more specific gauge in. My thoughts for installing it would to have it threaded into the slot on top of the thermostat housing where the stock temp gauge sending unit is threaded in. That was my thought but it can be totally off. If I can get some input I would really appreciate it.
