Default 1500 5.7L swap to 6.4L?

I wonder how hard it would be to swap a 5.7 for the 6.4L in a 1500. Im sure someone will be doing this within in the next year. To me, I would imagine it not being that difficult of a transition. Im sure its really expensive to do so but I just wanted to put the thought out there.

A member, ironchef, did already.

Here is his truck he sold. Look through all of the pictures. I think they show how much he paid for the block and a built transmission.

The work was done by another member here, MGH.

Wonder how much of a performance boost it is? Numbers wise, it doesn't sound like a lot of an improvement or worth the $12K premium. Though if you have the money, more power to you!

That's not a new 6.4 swap, they (he?) had Arrington put in a 5.7 based stroker with big valve heads (says it right on the slip).

Not sure if the new 6.4 would be that easy of a drop in. The engine in this truck was based on the same style original engine, so everything bolts up like factory.

just by looking at the sheet, it puts out a ton more power then the the stock 5.7, especially with that custom ground cam. Easily kicks my trucks butt..and not many gas rams can.

Did I read that right? 404 HP? how much more is that then the stock 5.7? You would think that srt8 6.4 would put out allot more, but then again I am no expert!

404 hp at the rear wheels is a huge improvement over stock 5.7

NOT an SRT8 engine. Stroked out 5.7

A forged 5.7 based 392 is probably much stronger than a stock 6.4. Forged pistons, rods and crank. A friend of mine ran 10.58 with his 4300 lb Dodge Magnum RT with one on a little spray. Now he's building a 426 based on a 6.1. He's gunning for 9's in a full weight street driven Magnum. I suspect he was pushing 650 rwhp or more. That's probably enough power in a Ram, even with a built 545RFE.
