Angry Horrible mpg!!

Hey all, I am new to the forum and a first time proud Ram owner. (well kind of. Love the truck, not the mpg) First let me ask you guys if this sounds right. I know there are other threads on this subject but the people either still seem to get far better mileage than me or they are older model trucks (Pre-MDS). I drive mostly city-short commutes to work and get 8.2 mpg through a full tank of gas (Only a couple stoplights) I hardly ever get on it and keep it a goal to try and keep the “eco” light on as much as possible, although its impossible until I get up and moving at about 25-30 mph. I burned through half a tank of gas down the freeway yesterday and got 13mpg. Now I bought the truck with 325/65/18 tires (about 34.6” X 13” wide) and a leveling kit so I know the mileage should be 2 gpm worse or so but does this sound right?? I just put 24” magnaflow duals on it and I'm saving up for a CAI. It has the stock 3.55 gears in it, I'm wondering if its just taking too much throttle to move and keep it moving and I could possibly benefit from 4.10 gears? I can see getting 11 or 12 mpg city but 8mpg for a fairly new truck with only 50,000 miles doesn't seem right. Any input is welcomed. Thanks all.

Higher gears would probably help a little, making it easier to get the wheels rolling.

What kind of tires are you running? AT? MT? Have you checked to see how much they weigh each? Tires that size can range from about 60 lbs to over 80 lbs. That could have a lot to do with it

Unhappy

I am using 87 octane fuel and 35" fierce attitude M/T tires. I mean I know switching gears and going to a A/T tire will help but this seems pretty low even for how mine is set up..

Hey! I am a first time ram owner myself and I am having the same concern. I'm aware of "truck milage" but damn, I'm averaging 30L/100kms (small town driving). Like you I try and milk the Eco mode and cannot get any better. On the highway I managed 14L/100kms. Is that normal?
PS- all stick wheels + cold air intake

I do agree it does seem low. I'm getting about 13-14 when I drive through DC, I have a stock set up still, but I have a hard time believing yours would be that much worse.

You may want to try a thorough cleaning. Here's a link to another thread....granted his truck is a different gen but I'm thinking your problem sounds similar. He replaced his O2 sensors and re-calibrated his odometer for his larger tires.

Mine is no better. If i let my 2012 (only 8k) warm up for about 10mins in the morning before leaving for work and about 5 mins when im about to leave work I only get about 7mpg city. Same driving conditions, only a couple stops, 30mph tops and driving it like a ol' lady. Lately i havent been letting it warm up as much only about 5mins in the morning and barely at all when leaving and it bumped up to 9mpg. I have stock 20's on mine and only switched to synthetic oil and use 89octane, dont know what gears i have but everything is stock on my hemi. It's also a 4x4 quad cab.

I currently am getting 21L/100kms in the -30C cold winter here in Winnipeg. I personally don't think thats too bad considering this crap weather. That is with mostly city driving and very minimal why driving. Ironically enough I have noticed I actually get better fuel economy in FULL 4WD as opposed to AUTO4WD.. Make sense of that...
